Give me 60 Minutes a Day and I’ll Give you a New Business

We’re all pretty busy.  There doesn’t seem to be enough time in the day for me to get my son to school, get all of my work done at the office, help out around the house, and then spend some meaningful time on my passion business.

I’ve heard the gurus talk about how we find time for what we are passionate about.  If I am truly passionate about exercising, I will find time for it.  If I’m not (and I haven’t been for quite a while and my fat boy jeans can prove it), I will prioritize other things ahead of it.  The most successful and productive people in the world don’t have any more time than you and I do to build their business and excel in their passions.  They simply prioritize better.

Here is my problem.  I go through times when my primary job just is not a lot of fun.  There are some cases and clients that I really don’t like.  They can be a drain on my physical and emotional energy and by the end of the day I’m exhausted.  It’s during these days that I really dream about dropping some of the areas of practice that I don’t enjoy, but at the same time I don’t know what I would do otherwise.  I daydream about building my online business and living the of an unconventional internet entrepreneur.  The daydreaming lasts a while and then I’m back on the treadmill churning out client work.  I find myself vegging out on the couch watching Hawaii 5.0 and NCIS on my DVR thinking about how I could escape the work I seem to hate so much.  Then, I go to bed just to wake up the next morning and do it all over again. Instead of working toward a future that I am excited about I accept the business that doesn’t thrill me just because it is secure and it is there.

If you are in a similar boat as me, then you could easily find an extra hour each day to spend building your business and getting it focused in the right direction.  The more work you do towards your end goal, the more momentum it will pick up.  The more passionate you are about your new work, the more you will prioritize it over the mundane, time-sucking activities like watching television and your business will begin take form.

One hour each day is five hours per week which is over 20 hours per month.  That is almost 1/2 of a normal work week that you found out of dead, non-productive time that you can now focus on helping you go from day dreaming to actually living out your best business.

Even though you may be able to put a large chunk of time into your business on one of your weekend days, the consistency of working a little bit each day will create momentum in your business and push you to your goal much faster.
